Trowell services, located on the M1, was originally developed by Mecca Leisure with a distinctive and somewhat old-fashioned design featuring two-storey buildings close to the carriageway. Over the years, the site has been managed by Granada and subsequently Moto, with significant changes including the removal of original restaurants to accommodate retail outlets like M&S Simply Food and an expansion of the Greggs brand presence. Recent updates include the replacement of a takeaway-only Costa with a KFC on the northbound side in 2024, continuing the site's evolution from its original mid-century layout.
