Rivington services, formerly known as Bolton West, underwent a complete transformation and rebranding in 2011 to replace a poorly-regarded site with a more compact, petrol-station-focused design. While it has seen varying satisfaction ratings over the years and features unique elements like an HGV-specific high-powered electric vehicle charger, it has also recently seen the demolition of its associated lodge due to rising costs. The site remains notable for its history of experimental food retail, such as being the first on the motorway network to feature Subway units offering Halal products.
