Located on the M62 between junctions 25 and 26, the Hartshead Moor service station serves as a vital stop for travellers traversing the Pennines. Originally opened in 1973, the site has a rich and sometimes sombre history, including serving as a focal point for the emergency response to a 1974 terrorist attack that is commemorated by a dedicated memorial garden on-site. Despite facing recent criticism in industry satisfaction surveys, the facility continues to undergo modernisation, including recent upgrades to its catering offerings and ongoing infrastructure improvements designed to better serve the high volume of traffic on this busy motorway.
