Gorey motorway services experienced a long and difficult path to completion, with construction finishing in 2015 but the site remaining closed for four years due to contractual disputes and legal challenges from competitors. After significant delays and a costly period of being fenced off under 24-hour security, the facility finally opened to the public in March 2019. While it was initially marketed as the largest service station in Europe, it is better defined as one of the largest in Ireland and features a variety of food outlets, including a McDonald's, as well as extensive electric vehicle charging facilities.
