The Cobham services on the A2 originated in 1968 as the Scalers Hill service station, featuring Esso petrol stations and Little Chef restaurants on both sides of the road. Following the closure of the restaurants in 2007 and subsequent site developments, only the westbound side remains in operation today as a large petrol station with various food concessions. The site has undergone several ownership changes and refurbishments over the years, though it is currently slated for closure to accommodate the new A122 Lower Thames Crossing project.
