The Birch service station consists of two distinct sites on the M62, with the eastbound side retaining its original architecture and the westbound side serving as a modern replacement for a building destroyed by fire in 2003. Recent developments have significantly enhanced the location, including the installation of extensive GRIDSERVE and Tesla electric vehicle charging hubs, the addition of new food outlets like Pret A Manger and KFC on the eastbound side, and the introduction of new Changing Places facilities. Furthermore, the parking structure has been simplified to a standard two-hour or twenty-four-hour system, and previous plans for a westbound Costa drive-thru have since lapsed.
